VDP.Grosse Lage® – The pinnacle of German wine art

The predicate VDP.GROSSE LAGE® distinguishes the highest quality vineyards in Germany - such as the Grand Cru sites in Burgundy. These wines are unique and distinctive. The VDP calls wines from the Grosse Lage "our non plus ultra".

In this class, the locations are precisely delimited. This is where the best wines mature: wines with an expressive location character and special aging potential. The conditions for VDP.Grosse Gewächse® - dry wines from the VDP.Grosse Lage® - are strict. Only certain regional grape varieties that are suitable for the vineyard are permitted. The harvest quantity is limited to 50hl per hectare. In addition, the harvest conditions and vinification methods are very precise
required.

Our VDP.Grosses Gewächs® Mönchshof GG

Wines with Burgundian elegance from the shell limestone

On the edge of the medieval city wall in Frickenhausen, directly on the river and with a view to the south, there is a barren, stony Muschalkalk steep slope: Mönchshof. The Mönchshof owes its name to an estate formerly managed by Benedictine monks. The location is a water protection area, because Frickenhausen's drinking water has been collecting below the location for over 1,000 years. One more reason why the Bickel-Stumpf family produces their wines in a careful and environmentally friendly way.

The heavily calcareous terroir from the shell limestone gives the wines a Burgundian elegance. The wines appear almost baroque at the first sip, but their long finish gives the appropriate
Elegance. The wines are full-bodied and profound.

Our VDP.Grosses Gewächs® Rothlauf GG

Filigree wines from Buntsandstein

In the steepest part of the Thüngersheim Johannisberg there is a small gully that has always been called the Rothlauf. The stony soil of the lower shell limestone is interspersed with red sandstone, which pushes to the surface here and there. Here are two of the geological formations that arose in the Franconian valley, right next to each other.

In deeper soil layers, the terroir consists mainly of red sandstone. colored sandstone
gives the wines a very individual signature: the wines of this VDP.Grossen Lage® are filigree, elegant, straightforward and long-lived.
