THE JOHANNESBERG
The Johannisberg lies east of Thüngersheim and consists of several small side valleys with a south-southwest and east orientation. The vineyards are 180-300m above sea level, have a gradient of up to 60% and are protected from cold easterly winds by a forest belt above the vineyards. The location is characterized by another geological feature: the Thüngersheim saddle. A tectonic fault caused the red sandstone to break through the layer of lower shell limestone, so that two geological formations of the Franconian Triassic are located next to each other in a very small space. The wines from this vineyard have a very special juiciness and clear fruit with a mineral kick.
