Love for craftsmanship, respect for nature: the Bickel-Stumpfs combine two outstanding Franconian terroirs into a small but fine family winery.
VDP.Grosse Lage®
The predicate VDP.GROSSE LAGE® distinguishes the highest quality vineyards in Germany - such as the Grand Cru sites in Burgundy. These wines are unique and distinctive. The VDP calls wines from the Grosse Lage "our non plus ultra". In this class, the locations are precisely delimited. This is where the best wines mature: wines with an expressive location character and special aging potential.
MONCHSHOF GG | VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS®
Wines with Burgundian elegance from the shell limestone
On the edge of the medieval city wall in Frickenhausen, directly on the river and with a view to the south, there is a barren, stony Muschalkalk steep slope: Mönchshof. The location is a water protection area, because Frickenhausen's drinking water has been collecting below the location for over 1,000 years.
The heavily calcareous terroir from the shell limestone gives the wines a Burgundian elegance. The wines are full-bodied and profound.
RED RUN GG | VDP.GROSSES GEWÄCHS®
Filigree wines from Buntsandstein
In the steepest part of the Thüngersheim Johannisberg there is a small gully that has always been called the Rothlauf. The stony soil of the lower shell limestone is interspersed with red sandstone, which pushes to the surface here and there.
Buntsandstein gives the wines a very individual signature: the wines of this VDP.Grosse Lage® are filigree, elegant, straightforward and long-lasting.

VDP.ERSTE LAGE®
The predicate VDP.ERSTE LAGE® identifies first-class locations with an independent character, on which optimal growth conditions prevail and where wines of high quality have been demonstrably produced over a long period of time.
The VDP.ERSTE.LAGE® wines Johannisberg and Kapellenberg perfectly express the two Bickel-Stumpf terroirs.
THE JOHANNISBERG LOCATION
The Johannisberg site consists of several small side valleys with a south-southwest and east orientation.
The location is characterized by a geological feature: the Thüngersheim saddle. A tectonic fault caused the red sandstone to break through the layer of lower shell limestone, so that two geological formations of the Franconian Triassic are located next to each other in a very small space.
"The wines from this vineyard have a very special juiciness and clear fruit with a mineral kick."
THE KAPELLENBERG LOCATION
The Frickenhäuser steep slope of the Kapellenberg lies directly on the Main and overlooks a particularly narrow section of the river valley. Winegrowers have been cultivating their vines on this ancient shell limestone soil for over 1,000 years.
"For winemaker Matthias Bickel-Stumpf and his family, the Silvaner from the Kapellenberg is the benchmark for a Franconian Silvaner!"

VDP.ORTSWEIN
The winery's red grape varieties grow on the Rothügel - the old cadastral name for a disused quarry, whose red rock is still clearly visible today. A part of this small biotope in the middle of the Johannisberg was created in 1986 by grandfather Hugo Stumpf as a museum mountain based on historical models - to preserve the old Franconian wine-growing culture.
The VDP.Ortsweine from the Bickel-Stumpf family are quality wines without Schischi. They come from the high-quality locations within the town markings of Thüngersheim and Frickenhausen. Here the family grows the native Silvaner grape variety on red sandstone and shell limestone. The focus is on reduced yields and the interplay of grape variety and origin.

VDP.GUTSWEIN
Uncomplicated soloists: With the VDP.Gutswein Riesling and Silvaner, the Bickel-Stumpf family presents the entry-level line of their quality wines. "Basics at its best," says the VDP. Because even wines of this quality level are produced with high standards.

With traditional bottle fermentation, selected grapes are refined into our crémants. The early harvest of the grapes by hand, the second fermentation in the bottle in cool conditions
Vaults and the final adjustment of the dosage result in this fine sparkling tingling.

Our winery has a very special history: it was founded in 1976 when Carmen Bickel and Reimund Stumpf decided to merge - both privately and professionally. This brought together two outstanding Franconian terroirs and laid the foundation for our family, which today lives and works in two different places.
